Monthly Photo Contest Finally Judged

This is yesterday news, actually, but I was trying to clear up some details with the winner.

The shot to the left is the winning shot for our last Photo Contest theme, “Fruit.” Shot by Ken Gomes.

Ken was good enough to give us a description of how he captured this striking shot with his EOS Rebel XSi, and we’ve got that posted on the Winners’ page over here, definitely worth a look because it’s deceptively easyand clever.

The next theme is “That Stuff Under Your Bed” and my co-worker Dawn is managing all your submissions for that while I devote some time to fairly major site revisions. We’ve had winners using a Nikon Coolpix camera, an EOS Rebel,  and up through an aging Nikon professional body, the D2x, so don’t be afraid to send pictures in no matter what you shoot. It’s far more important that you get the good shot.

Photos submitted this month will be judged by special gust judge Wilbur Montgomery.

Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On

While there’ll likely be a slew of nex-gen point-and-shoot cameras hitting my desk in the coming months, there’s a bit of an announcement lull going on right now. But, don’t let that fool you into thinking nothing is going on. At least not in the ol’ Circle City.

Those of you not in the habit of poking around our site might have missed the following things going on in Indy soon:

Under “Upcoming Events” we have several seminars coming up, including Amanda Arrick (last seen in this Raw Footage video) giving a seminar on the 40D and 50D Canon digital SLR cameras, and Nikon’s Jason Stewart giving two sessions of his seminar on the D300 and D700 Nikon digital SLR cameras.

Anyone in attending any of these seminars can find more details on the Upcoming Events page, and can reserve seats by calling 1-800-726-5544 and asking for “Classes and Events.”

And, don’t forget about our new Indianapolis Photo Calendar, which is starting to fill up with weekly club meetings, special seminars, and events. Check those out over here.

Still not enough to keep you busy this winter? Why not grab your camera (be it a Sony CyberShot camera or an Olympus digital camera like the E-410), and give our new monthly photo contest a go? Anyone can enter, and the prize every month is a 16×20″ print courtesy of our Online Photo Lab. The current theme is “Winter Wonderland,” so get out there and get shooting.

Our Second Photo Contest

Photo Contest: Autumn

Just a reminder to everyone: tomorrow night is the last night for submissions to our second photo contest, and your chance to win a FREE 16 x 20″ print of your shot. We’ve had a lot of good submissions so far, ranging from everything to point-and-shoot Panasonic digital cameras through larger Nikon digital SLR cameras. So, no matter what you shoot, get out there tonight, or look through your hard drive, and find us a shot that you think captures the theme of “Autumn.”

More details can be found here. I’ll accept any submissions I find waiting in my email box when I get back in Monday morning at 9AM EST.

Photo Contest Update

While everyone in the US is waiting to see how this election turns out, Roberts has been busy finishing up our first ever photo contest, and I now have the winners.

Yup. Winners. We’ve decided our customers gave us so many great shots we couldn’t hold it to one.

by David Heithaus
Our main winner this time is David Heithaus, who will be receiving a 16″x20″ print of his shot (pictured) on premium photo paper from our own Online Photo Lab.

A Special Category (focusing on artistic interpretations) prize is being awarded to Dario Impini, who’ll be receiving an 11″x14″ print. Also, four honorable mentions were selected and we’ll be thanking them with complimentary flash memory card holders, to make sure their cards are safe and at-hand while they’re out shooting for future contests.

And, while you’re saving up the pennies for your own Epson wide format ink jet printer, don’t forget that Roberts Online Photo Lab can give you professional quality with far less hassel for very friendly prices.

New Photo Contest

November's Theme: Fall

It’s the end of the month, and as such we’re closing the doors on our first ever photo contest at midnight. Our first theme, Motorcycles, was a huge success and you can see all the submissions here.

It’s practically November now, and to make us feel better about the onsetting chill here in the Midwest, our new theme is Autumn. So, grab your camera–be it an EOS Rebel, a Nikon Coolpix camera, or a Sony Alpha 900– and go shoot us autumn through your eyes. The winner gets their shot printed poster-sized on our premium photo paper, perfect for framing and showing off.

Monthly Photo Contests

Since our Indy Airshow Flickr was such a great success, Roberts is now pleased to be running a Monthly Photo Contest over on our main site. For any of you who check this blog instead, here’s the skippy:

Each month we’ll announce a new theme for submissions. You, dear readers, then submit photos for this. We will consider two photos from each person in a contest, and the winning photo will be printed poster size and sent to the photographer. Plus, entrants get the publicity of being seen on our Flickr. Aaand Roberts respects your rights to market, sell, distribute, and otherwise keep the copyright on your photos. It’s a no-lose situation, really.

In honor of Indianapolis hosting the MotoGP for the first time ever, the first theme is motorcycles. So, grab those compact flash cards (or SD memory cards, whichever), grab your camera and go rock the motorcycle scene.

And then send us your best.

Got ideas for future themes? You bet we’d love to hear them. Leave me some in the comments, and I’ll jot’em down.
