I was enjoying the sunset at my condo and noticed that, through the sunlight, the water on the top of the fountain looked like sparkling wine when the bottle has been opened with buildup pressure. I used a short exposure to capture the water drops in the air as well as get the correct light exposure, which resulted in a black background.

This month’s theme, white space, is one of the fundamental aspects of composition used in all art, including photography. White space, or negative space, is empty space left around a subject that helps the subject have room to exist and increases its impact on the viewer. Lots of white space, when done well, impart a sense of elegance into the work.
Our challenge for you this month is to work on your use of white space. Pay attention to your environment and remove all clutter or distracting elements. Simplify your composition. Leave large spaces “empty” so that your chosen subject becomes the obvious emphasis. And then, post them here by midnight Novemeber 30th for your chance to win a free 16×20″ print of your photo.
