This was a relatively simple shot.
I noticed that the topic was “springs” and I looked at my desk where I had several ball-point pens. I dis-assembled the pens and removed the springs and arranged them on a sheet of copier paper. I handheld a flashlight and lit the springs to create the shadows and started shooting, flashlight in one hand and a camera in the other. Once I had one I liked, I did a bit of editing in Lightroom and distorted the image to give it that “stretched” distorted look and what you see was the final result…..like I said…simple! Sometimes it”s best not to overthink the shot.

It’s spring. Except, so far here in Indiana, you couldn’t tell. So, while all of our thoughts are turned towards spring, the weather’s just not giving us the chance for good spring photographs. So, instead, we’re making this month’s contest about SPRINGS. See, it’s similar, but totally different. So, go forth, seek out those coils of metal that we overlook so often in our day-to-day post-industrial lives. Rusted or new, from your car, from pens, from Slinkies. Just make sure your picture somehow involves a spring, not the season spring, and that you get your up to two entries in before midnight, April 30th.
Limit 2 entries per person.
