Epson Artisan 800 All-in-one printer

Epson has gone full boat with the all-in-one printer segment.  The big deal about this one (Epson Artisan 800) is the ease of use and the lab quality photo capability that most of these style printers don’t offer.  Here are the specs from the Epson site:

  • Fax, even in color — send and receive faxes right at home

More Artisan

Just to follow up on Phil’s post I just got the Artisan printers (700 and 800) up on our site. While not the big, mostrous Epson wide format ink jet printers, they’re very nice looking, robust printers and use a 6 color Claria ink system. Oh, and did we remember to mention the boxes downstairs mention a free Extreme III 4 GB SD memory card? Now, I have to imagine that’s going to be limited to quantity on hand, but you fast acting cats can get a printer that’ll do 8×10 borderless prints, wirelessly, and an SD memory card, for 150 bucks.

And for those of you that do, you’ll have my envy. After adding the product pages I’ve added one of the 700s to my personal wish list.

Canon iPF5100

Last weekend, George Lepp was in town for a Canon Wide Format Printer training.  It was a great seminar and the folks I spoke to after the event were very impressed.

Canon is really going after the competition.  The prints that are coming out of the Canon iPF5100 that we have on display are amazing!  The ink usage is considerably less than the Epson counterparts.  Between the low printer pricing and ink usage, the Canon printers are tough to beat!  Roberts Imaging carries a wide range of paper for these printers.  We carry Ilford wide format paper, Epson wide format paper, and many other photo paper types.

The pricing, like I said, is very impressive.  Roberts Imaging has the printer and it’s counterparts priced as follows:

Canon iPF 5100 $1349.00
Canon iPF 6100 $2359.00
Canon iPF 8100 $4189.00
Canon iPF 9100 $10879.00

Canon inks:

130ml $74.00
330ml $164.00

There are great trade in offers going on right now too.  Come to our downtown store to see the iPF5100 on display.  We have some prints from it as well.  Ask for Jeff Moore when you come down or call.  He is our resident expert on the Epson wide format printers and the Canon wide format printers.

Lab quality prints at home with the Canon PIXMA Pro 9500

Canon printers have really come along in the last few years.  They have made some great strides with their consumer printers to give Epson and HP a run.  The Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 printer is a great example.

If you are looking for a printer that can make a lab quality 13×19 printer, this printer can do it well.  The Pro 9500 uses 10 different “LUCIA” pigment based inks that include two different black and one grey inks for superior black and white printing.  It prints at 4800 X 2400 dpi with 3 picoliter nozzles in the print head.

I have used a variety of papers in the printer.  Canon, like all printer manufacturers, only recommends their own photo paper, but many different photo paper types are compatible.  My favorite has been the Ilford Smooth Pearl paper.  Epson wide format paper (13×19) is also very compatible.  The black and white stuff has been truly amazing!  Canon rates the print life at 100+ years on color and 200 + on black and white prints.  Longevity is probably not going to be an issue.

The other nice part is that the inks just don’t seem to clog up.  With the Epson wide format ink, you really need to use them a lot to keep the heads from consistantly clogging up.  Not so with the Canon.  In over a year, I have not had one clog.

You can look at the printer on the Roberts Imaging site.  If you want a more in-depth review you can look here.  The is a $150 rebate going on through 9/28/08.  We have a great price on the 9500 and if you want to see one, we have it on display at our downtown location.
