Nikon Updates Firmware For D3x, D3, D700, D300s

Nikon issued a buncha new firmwares, apparently to support those new boffo 64GB cards that’re starting to trickle out (like this one, maybe?). Anyway, I found this news at DPReview, and they have it laid out the best for getting ahold of those, so rather than reinvent the wheel I’m just going to float them some traffic and send you there to grab those. Just to remember to come back to us when you need the cameras themselves, k?

Sony Alphas A230, A330, A380 All Get New Firmware

a230-330-380-frimwaresSony’s consumer triplets–the A230, A330, and A380–all received notice of a new firmware today. It purportedly (that’s a good word, isn’t it? Purportedly. Makes me feel fancy.) fixes exposure lock on the focuses subject in center-weighted and spot metering modes. If that just made sense to you, you’ll appreciate this firmware.

Canon EOS 7D Firmware – Once More, With Feeling!

7D-CAN-HAZ-FIRMWAREZ-1.1.0

Available for download here: is the release of Canon’s second firmware update for the EOS 7D, which started shipping in September. This update, 1.1.0, corrects the issue where fragments of the preceding frame would appear in a given frame during continuous shooting. Canon’s release indicates this only happened during incorrect exposures and was imperceptible until levels were adjusted in post-processing.

Two updates in the first 90 days of the camera’s life. Some people might say this is an issue -I figure they’re coding the updates and releasing them in a timely way and that kind of responsiveness is not bad at all.

Panasonic LX3 Can Haz Firmware Back, We Haz Party

7dShould you be one of the few lucky enough to own a 7D already, you’ll be wanting to mosey over to Canon’s site and pickup the newly announced firmware for it, which improves AF in live view mode, some stuff in movie mode, and fixes a transient problem where sometimes the shutter release won’t work while using a flash.

For those of you not lucky enough to have one yet, we don’t know when they’ll start shipping with the new firmware and when they’ll have the old, please don’t ask, and also please do check yours when you get it and update it then if necessary. It’s a painless process, we promise.

Panasonic LX3 Gets New Firmware Pulled

LX3-firmware-recallApparently this week’s earlier firmware update for the LX3 has been taken offline with a promise that an improved version will return later this month.

According to Panasonic UK:

“The download for the firmware update program to Ver.2.0 has been temporarily suspended, in order to make sure the reliability of the firmware, more specifically in case of the use of some newly added functions on Custom shooting mode. The download is expected to be available back again around the 20th Oct.

For the users who have already updated LX3 to Ver.2.0
The camera which has been already updated to Ver.2.0, can be used without any problem after the reset of the camera by selecting the [RESET] in Setup menu. Please note that all settings except the clock setting will be reset to the initial settings. To keep the current settings, please make sure to write down the settings on a note in advance to reset the settings.”

So, there you go. Looks like if you did upgrade, you can improve stability at the cost of some settings, which is sad but at least better than bricking. This has been a great camera, here’s to hoping the second shot at this firmware works out a bit better.
