Indy Air Show Photo Contest Entries

So, it has been pointed out to us (by my own father, nonetheless), that there was no actual link pointing to where you can look at all the entries that got submitted before the deadline for the Indy Air Show Photo Contest. This lead to some serious face-palming, and there’s now a nice big graphic when you first land on the blog. You can also hit the link below and go off to review all the photos, and you can even give ones you like/dislike thumbs up/thumbs down. The contest is closed, though, so it’s all just looking now. Winners will be announced on here the first week of August.

[UPDATE: The link is broken because both entries and community voting for the contest are closed. Please visit The Indianapolis Air Show's official Flickr page to view this year's entries.]

The Indy Air Show Starts Today, We’re Running the Photo Contest

Today’s the first day for the 14th Annual Indianapolis Air Show. That means only two days until the Roberts Indy Air Show Experience (tickets still available, btw).

And, don’t forget that we’ve partnered with IAS this year to run their annual photo contest. We’ll keep the link for where to go upload those big and up-top here on the blog as long as submissions are open (through the 30th).

You can upload up to three pictures, one in each of three categories: Civilian, Military, and The Air Show Experience. You can also up- or down-vote other submitted photos. In addition to the juried contest (judged this year by Jim Koepnik), the crowd-favorite will also win a prize.

So, don’t forget to join us Sunday for the Experience, and if you can’t make that, at least get out there today or tomorrow and get some good shots in, yeah? Check out the prizes afer the jump if you need more reason to enter.

The Roberts Indy Airshow Experience Is This Weekend!

by Mark Norris

It’s close to that time of the year again, oh ye fans of aviation! This Sunday, the 13th of June, in the year 2010, shall be the glorious return of the Roberts’ Indy Airshow Experience! Planes, thrills, and exotic lenses await those seeking adventure, those with the spirit of freedom flowing under their wings.

Come ye with soaring hearts, come to Indianapolis (well, Mt Comfort, anyway.) Come try equipment from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Manfrotto, and Gitzo. Come meet fellow adventurers in this arena called life. Come eat our food.

And, lest we forget, come see the 14th Annual Indianapolis Air Show! Be wowed by The Horsemen and their P-51 Mustang aerobatic show. Be amazed by the VFA-122 Super Hornet Demonstration Squad. Revel in the antics of Michael Goulian. Stroll down history lane with the many grounded planes, bombers, and helicopters.

New Contest Theme For June

It’s a pretty rare day that I get to put something sexy on our homepage (unless you count the rounded curves of an EOS body, but I don’t swing that way), being the all-ages venue as we are. Which is a bit of an odd compromise, since so much photography is devoted to making things sexy, or glamorous, or what-have-you.

But, I at least got to use this lovely image to illustrate this month’s photo contest theme: feet.

I’m proud of this theme. Feet. It’s pretty open-ended, and it makes you look at mundane things and try to make something spectacular of them. Take a chance, look at things in a new light. And, they’re awkward to compose for, so it’ll make you work on your composition, up your game. Good times.

As always, full details and the link to upload pics available via the external link below (if you’re in a feed you’ll have to click through to the full post).

PhotoWalk 5-24 (Monday – no really, it is.)

We’re meeting at 6:15 on Washington Ave in the parking lot which is East across the river from the Indianapolis Zoo and West across Washington Street from Victory Field. Look at the picture!

at 6:15, whoo hoo

This is where we'll meet and then go someplace interesting. Taking pictures.

It’ll be a ton of fun. Thanks to the Photowalk loyals and newcomers.

EDIT: Walk With Us: Monday May 10

EDITED FOR CORRECT DATE:

So, another walkabout announcement here. Next Monday, MAY 10th. 6:30pm or so until we get bored and shuffle off. Where? The gardens outside the Indianapolis Museum of Art, somehwere on te trail near the big fountain thinger and close to the bridge thinger. Really, just look for any goobers standing around with camera bags after you park.

What you need to bring: yourself, a camera. That’s it. Free to all, no pressure. Point-and-shoot, DSLR, medium format, pinhole, whatever. Come out and take some pictures, have some fun, talk with us, walk with us, yadda yadda.

See y’all then.

Spring Expo Starts Tomorrow

So, tomorrow is day 1 (or, for you Carmel shoppers, the only day) for this year’s Spring Expo. For those who’ve never been to one, twice a year we have a whole gaggle of our reps come in to our local brick-and-mortar Indianapolis stores and show off all their stuff, answer your questions, etc… Generally it’s a good time to get to try out some rare equipment you might not get to see on shelves normally (like Leica’s line-up, Olympus’ Top Pro Lenses, Nikon and Canon’s tilt shifts, etc).

And of course there’ll be specials, deals, sales, limited offers, you name it bouncing around, too, and I’ll be posting some of those on our homepage tomorrow. There’ll be buyers on hand to relieve you of old equipment and liberate some funds for shiny new toys, if you’re so inclined. It is spring, after all, out with the old, in with the new.

This time around you’ll be able to chat with reps for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Manfrotto, Gitzo, Elinchrom, Sandisk, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Hoya, Tenba, Lowepro, ThinkTank Photo, Lastolite, Avenger, Mamiya, Leica, Skooba, Induro, Kingston, Westcott, and more.

Expo is at our downtown store Friday and Saturday April 23 and 24 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. It’ll be at our Carmel store Friday only 5:00 until 7:30 pm.
